One man bailed, one released following armed police arrests
A 25-year-old man has been bailed until 19 September 2013 pending further police investigation following an armed police operation on Laira Bridge Road on Wednesday night (10 July).
Police say a 23-year-old man has been released with no further action being taken.
Armed police mounted the operation in response to reports that two men were carrying weapons.
A police helicopter was also dispatched.
Police were initially called to Laira Bridge Road at 7.25pm on Wednesday 10 July. Police say one suspect was promptly arrested by officers.
The other suspect ran into a house in Laira Place. Armed officers were called to contain the house and, after a lengthy standoff, the man was arrested at midnight.
A number of police vehicles lined Embankment Road during the incident as members of the public looked on.
A spokesperson for the police comfirmed yesterday (Thursday 11 July): "Both men, aged 23 and 25 from Plymouth, were arrested on suspicion of affray. They were taken to Crownhill police station to be questioned by officers.
"Enquiries are continuing."
