Fun-packed summer at City Museum and Art Gallery
Things are hotting up at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, which has a packed programme of events and activities on offer for children and families throughout the summer holiday.
Free film screenings of Wreck-It Ralph (6 August), Madagascar 3 (13 August), Ice Age 4 (20 August) and The Croods (27 August) will run from 1.30pm each Tuesday.
Drop-in craft sessions will run on Wednesdays, giving people a chance to sketch and colour (7 August), learn how to play the fun and easy Mancala game, which originates from Africa (14 August) and use craft materials to make a lighthouse (21 August) or a sea bird (28 August). Sessions run from 10.30am to 1pm (last entries at 12.30pm).
On Thursdays people can work more closely with one of the Museum’s education officers in a series of fun, bookable workshops that will run from 10.30am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 3pm.
Activities will include making a mancala game (1 August), a ship inspired by the maritime gallery (8 August), a dazzling Egyptian headdress and collar (15 August), fantastic masks (22 August) or a curiosities and memories box (29 August). Handling tables will also be on offer each Thursday between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
Admission to the Tuesday film screenings and the Wednesday drop-ins is free and there's no need to book.
Places on the Thursday workshops cost £2.50 per child and advance booking and payment are essential - call in at the Museum's Welcome Desk from 10am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Friday or between 10am and 5pm on Saturdays.
Visitors to the Museum during the summer holidays will also get the chance to chat to members of staff and volunteers in the ‘Stories from the Stores’ social history exhibition on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, plus see what objects the curators have got out on display from the collections in a series of handling table sessions each Thursday morning.
