Plymouth City Council has produced a second money advice booklet specifically for carers and people living with disabilities.

The decision was made following a positive response towards the first advice booklet released following the welfare reforms last April.

The two booklets explain the changes to the benefit system such as the introduction of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), the Benefit Cap and Universal Credits.

In addition carers and people living with disabilities can find out what discounts and exemptions to their Council Tax and Housing Benefit are available. For example; Disabled Person Reduction, Carers Discount and Severely Mentally Impaired Reduction.

The booklet which explains the criteria for the benefit system is available online or in any of the city’s support organisations including libraries and Citizens Advice.

The booklet will be released alongside a series of events designed to provide information and advice on money matters next month.
