Plymouth pensioner, Anne Scarfe is 'Pride of Britain'
A Plymouth pensioner has been awarded a national 'Pride of Britain' honour.
86-year-old Anne Scarfe volunteers as a street pastor in the city, working tirelessly around Union Street until the early hours of the morning, helping late night revellers emerging from the pubs and clubs. Additionally, she runs a lunch club for the homeless and works at two soup kitchens.
Nominated as one of the regional 'Local Heroes', Anne was named as Britain's best volunteer in a glamorous, celebrity-packed ceremony for the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards held at the London Television Centre and televised last night (Tuesday 8 October) on ITV1.
Attendees included the Prince of Wales and the Prime Minister; the event was hosted by Carol Vorderman.
