City Centre loos get top award again

Plymouth’s flushed with success again after its city centre loos went platinum!

The lovely loos in Armada Way have been given the platinum standard for the second year running in the British Toilet Association’s Loo of the Year competition. They were also judged the best loos with full-time attendants in England.

The loos went from drab to fab as part of the Council’s commitment to improve the city centre for day-trippers and shoppers.

While the lavatories are mainly underground, ground-level facilities for people with disabilities, parents with pushchairs and baby-changing facilities were installed.

Cabinet Member for the Environment, Councillor Brian Vincent added: “It’s important to remember that we are providing these facilities in the city centre at a time when other authorities are closing theirs.

“Visitors and shoppers as vital to the lifeblood of the local economy, so wanted to make these main city centre toilets attractive as well as safe. It’s also tribute to the hard work of our staff who keep the facilities spic and span.”

Users pay 20 pence, although people with disabilities can use the toilets on ground level for free, provided they have a radar key.

The toilets are open from 7am until 7pm, seven days a week but opening hours can be increased above ‘core’ hours for one-off events such as late night shopping.
