Class 40 World Championships

This summer the Class 40 World Championships will be hosted in the City of Plymouth from the 17-20 August.

The four day Championship will be organised by the Royal Western Yacht Club of England as the event authority, with an expected 20 international teams from nine nations due to compete at the event.

Twenty Class 40 teams have already pre-registered for the Rolex Fastnet Race and are due to arrive in Plymouth from the 15 August.

The second annual Ocean City Festival returns bigger and better in 2013.

Crime falls in Devon despite police funding concerns

Figures published on Thursday 18 July show that crime in Devon and Cornwall has reduced despite significant budget cuts to local police.

The overall level of crime has fallen by 6.3% in the year between 15 July, 2012 and 14 July 2013. There were 5,740 fewer reported crimes than in the previous year.

Devon GP urges people to stay cool in hot weather as heatwave level is raised

A GP from Devon has urged people to stay cool in the hot weather and to look after elderly and vulnerable friends and neighbours as the Met Office today (Thursday 18 July) raised the heatwave level for Devon up to category three.

This means there is a 90 per cent probability of heatwave conditions between 0900 on Thursday and 2100 on Friday in Devon.
