We hit the refresh button with this exhibition of fresh new work inspired by the sea

FRESH AIRS presents four artists who are inspired by the sea and coast of Devon and Cornwall.  Each has a different style but all are passionate about this beautiful part of the world.  Their enthusiasm and fresh approach is just what we need right now, as we come out of hibernation and tentatively return to normal life.  These beautiful paintings will lift your spirits and give you renewed  optimism and hope for the warm, sunny days ahead.

Jo Vollers   Although Jo is more recognised for her glorious flower paintings she also loves to paint the coastline and excels in capturing that special air and energy of the sea. In particular her depictions of the local fishing boats as they rest jauntily on the shoreline, waiting until their next outing to sea, are  stylish and fun.  Jo's style is wonderfully loose and her eye for colour is exceptional.

Max Wildman  If you love boats you will love Max Wildman's work.  Painting in the style of the legendary Alfred Wallis, Max covers the full gamut of sailing vessels, from top-mast schooners to brigantines, from trawlers to racing yachts.  Each has a timeless appeal and you can almost feel the fresh airs as they fill the sails and fly across the horizon, or heading homeward towards some small working harbour.

Sam Boughton  In complete contrast Sam Boughton's wonderful paintings are a masterclass in free form abstraction.  Sam's thoughtful use of form, line and colour captures perfectly her love of the sea and its ever-changing moods,  from wild and free to more peaceful and reflective. An instinctive painter, Sam's large canvasses are most appealing to the eye and create a bold statement in any setting.

Alistair Erskine  New to the gallery this year, Alistair Erskine is an accomplished artist who has exhibited widely and toured with HRH The Prince of Wales.  In his work he seeks to capture that fleeting moment of colour interacting with the light, creating an intense composition of the elements before him.  Working from his summer base in Mothecombe, he has produced some stunning paintings of much-loved local scenes.
