Adventures In Music: Hooray for the Hang! with Manu Delago
Bring your young ones along to the Museum as Manu Delago Handmade present an exciting interactive session inspired by elements of jazz, pop and classical music.
The Austrian trio will introduce you to the Hang - one of the newest and most fascinating instruments in the world, invented just over a decade ago in Switzerland. They will also play from the family of bowed string instruments ranging from the violin to the double bass.
Join in with our musicians, play percussion and sing along to melodies!
Tickets are £4.50 per adult, and £3 for each child. Tickets are available to purchase online now. They will also be available to purchase at the Museum Welcome Desk by cash or cheque (made payable to ‘Plymouth City Council’) from mid-August. Our workshops often get booked up very quickly so please don’t delay if you want to make sure you’ve got a place! We regret that we’re unable to accept cheques for less than £10 or any card payments. All children must be accompanied by a responsible, paying adult. Please note that tickets are non-refundable.
About our artist
Manu Delago has just returned from touring around the world as drummer and Hang player of the Icelandic singer Björk. The “masterful and sensitive musician“ (The Telegraph) has also performed and recorded as soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra and collaborated with various artists such as Anoushka Shankar, Shpongle, Bugge Wesseltoft or The Cinematic Orchestra.
His solo career began in 2007 when he uploaded a video onto Youtube in which he plays the Hang, a UFO-like hand-played sound sculpture. Now that video is the most popular Hang video on the internet and has been viewed more than 4 million times. Soon after, the “virtuoso on the Hang“ (The Times) formed his own band which has since played concerts on five continents.
This event is part of the Adventures in Music series, which is supported by PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music Plus…UK.
