Tommaso Starace Quartet – Italian Short Stories
An aficionado of black and white photographs, gifted Italian saxophonist Tommaso Starace explores the world of one of the most celebrated Italian photographers, considered ‘the Cartier Bresson’ of his country.
Winner of the 2008 Lucie Award, one of the most prestigious prizes in the world of photography, Gianni Berengo Gardin has published more than 200 books and captured Italy through a lens since the 1940s. Taken in Palermo, Milan, Venice, Genoa, Siena and Florence, Starace and his quartet perform music specifically written for each image to create an atmosphere of ‘cinematic jazz’. The photos will be projected during the concert.
Tommaso will be accompanied by John Turville on piano, Al Swainger on bass and Chris Nickolls on drums.
Tommaso’s new album Italian Short Stories has been named one of the Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2014 by Mojo magazine.
