Plymouth City Council is delighted to welcome Devon based SWH Group to Building Plymouth.

SWH Group, a multi-disciplinary contractor delivering civil engineering, highway maintenance and building construction services, is the latest organisation to invest in the Council led Building Plymouth partnership.

Hot on the heels of SWH Civils starting work on Plymouth’s brand new coach station development, SWH Group confirmed their financial support for Building Plymouth, joining the fourteen other project sponsors: Plymouth City Council, Midas, Mi-Space, Kier, Redrow, Ryearch, Aecom, Plymouth Construction Training Group, Constructing Excellence SW, City College Plymouth, South Devon College, Skills Group, Millfields Trust and Plymouth Community Homes.

Council Leader Tudor Evans said: “We are really pleased to welcome SWH Group as a project sponsor for Building Plymouth.  The funding through this partnership will enable us to get local people into jobs and apprenticeships; raise the awareness of the exciting and diverse career opportunities; and to help increase the local availability of construction skills so that Plymouth can fully exploit the opportunities ahead.”

Andrew Plumber, Business Manager at SWH Group added: “We are pleased to contribute to the funding for this worthwhile project but we plan to contribute in other ways too. Armed with the experience we have gained from completing one of the most successful

National Skills Academy for Construction projects and recently having started another which reaches across the whole south west we feel we have a great deal to offer.  Our recent investment in new offices in Plymouth has seen us increase our activity in the area and now hope to open a second SWH Training Academy in Plymouth, all of which amounts to a real commitment to jobs and apprenticeships in the Plymouth area.”

The third Building Plymouth summit takes place later this week and will unveil the plan for Building Plymouth and involve many key stakeholders including all of the project sponsors.

The breakfast event will take place at the Future Inn Hotel on Wednesday 27 January, 8am to 10am. To book your place visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/building-plymouth-summit-3-tickets.20059010039
