Your company’s team is your strongest tool, and it’s absolutely essential in making a success of your products and services. That is why it is so important for every business owner to go the extra mile in order to ensure improved employee happiness and health. Here are some tips to get you started on creating a stronger and more productive workforce.

Curb workplace bullying

According to a recent survey, 29% of UK workers have experienced bullying at some point in their careers. This statistic is unacceptable, and it should be something that employers take very seriously. If you are concerned that this type of behaviour is becoming a problem in your business, you will obviously need to be looking into how to handle workplace bullying. Start by putting together a strict company policy that clearly states that bullying will not be tolerated in any shape or form. The policy should also communicate specific guidelines in terms of how bullying should be reported to management. Be sure to deal with any complaints that you receive thereafter quickly to prevent any further issues taking place in the future.

Help to encourage a better work-life balance

Today's society makes it more challenging than ever before for employees to create and maintain a balance between work and home life. However, this balance is crucial to employee wellness. Employees who are not able to create this balance will be at risk of burnout and general unhappiness.

As an employer, you can encourage a healthy work-life balance by allowing your employees more flexibility perhaps through the introduction of flexi-time (employees can choose when they work their set number of daily hours) or through the introduction of a work from home policy (for instance, they may choose one day per week to work from home, but must ensure that they are easily reachable throughout the work day).

Introduce an employee wellness program

Employers may also opt to introduce an office wellness program that seeks to encourage better employee health. This program may involve making healthier food choices available at much cheaper prices at the office cafeteria, or bringing in a yoga instructor during their lunch hour mid-week to help them focus the mind and get away from their desks for a bit. Healthy employees are happy employees, and happy employees are more productive and much more likely to be loyal to the company for which they work.

Be there for them

Employees need to know that they are supported and that they have been provided with everything necessary in order to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Having a superior in their corner that they know they can approach with any issues or concerns, can make a world of difference to their performance and overall job satisfaction. Make yourself available to your employees even if your time is limited. The long-term rewards will make it worth your while.

Becoming a more mindful employer can only mean great things for your business going forward. Here’s to growth, happiness, and success for your workforce and your company as a whole.
