New year, new focus for Ridgeway School

2016 is going to be a busy year for the students and staff at Ridgeway School in Plympton.

The school has a new leader, Lisa Boorman, and is set to have a new name, uniform and logo for the start of the September academic term.

Ms Boorman said; “The January league table will show the real progress that Ridgeway School made in 2015, this year we’ll be building on that success – we already know we’re one of the best schools across Plymouth and we need to represent that high performance and quality in everything we do.

“The school is proud to be part of the Plympton community, and from September we will be known as The Plympton Academy – with the new name comes the opportunity for students to choose a new uniform, and children from our wider community to get involved in creating a new logo for us.”

Ms Boorman joined Ridgeway School in 2014 and was principal designate from Easter 2015 – her main focus has been to raise achievement and improve results and she doesn’t see that changing.

“Although I don’t think I can overestimate the strides we’ve made in just one year, it’s still a ‘work in progress’ – we’re definitely not resting on our laurels. We have seen a marked increase in applications for 2016 intake, both at Year 7 and sixth form, so we are also planning for growth.”

There are plenty of challenges still to be realised at Ridgeway School, and Lisa has a firm focus on their imminent Ofsted.

“Staff, students and parents know that Ridgeway is a good school, the DfE has already recorded the advances that we’ve made – a substantial 12 per cent jump in our 5 A*-C GCSE results this year, including English and maths, 2016 is all about maintaining the momentum… to keep moving forward. The new name and uniform are just further steps in the right direction.”
