Work starts on new Performing Arts Centre
Building work on the new state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre at Plympton Academy is now underway.
The first part of the build, following the foundation work, is the massive steel frame.
This new building will have music classrooms, practice rooms, recording studio, drama studios and a new performance space.
“The vision is for the facilities to be used in conjunction with the community,” said Principal Lisa Boorman. “This partnership has proved successful with the new sports centre. Everyone is very excited about the new Performing Arts Centre it’s going to provide us with a fantastic space within the school.”
The funds for the project has come from two Capital Improvement Bids that were submitted to the Education Funding Agency. The £2million will pay for the Performing Arts Centre as well as resurfacing the existing PE hardstanding area and providing new fencing and lighting.
Plympton Academy is working in partnership with TFQ Architects, the designers and project managers, and contractors South West Highways Build, on the building projects that will enhance facilities across the school.
