City College open evening to offer advice and range of courses for adult learners
City College Plymouth is holding an open evening aimed at adult learners who are looking to return to learn, improve their career opportunities, update their skills or develop a new interest.
The event is being held at the College’s Kings Road site on Thursday 23 May between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. Visitors will be able to find out about the wide range of courses on offer including free English and maths courses, A levels, access to higher education, vocational courses, university-level foundation degrees, work-based learning courses including apprenticeships, legislative courses such as first aid and health and safety, and leisure courses in cookery skills, basic construction and much more besides.
There will be an opportunity to chat to staff about what’s on offer and the support available, with help and advice on how to access learning and courses that could enhance employment prospects.
For many mature students funding a further education course is a worry and can quite often be the deciding factor as to whether they choose to study or not – there will also be staff on-hand to talk through the new 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.
From August 2013 the Government will be introducing the new loan, which will enable those aged 24, or over to apply for a loan to cover their course fees if they are studying a level 3 or above course, in further education.
Furthermore, if a loan is taken out to cover the fees for an Access to Higher Education course, and a student progresses to complete a university-level (higher education) course, they will not have to pay back their 24+ Advanced Learning Loan at all.
