Extra sessions for Totnes home educated children
Due to popular demand, The Outdoors Group is adding an additional session to its home education provision at its Totnes site.
From November 14 the new Monday session will run from 9.30am to 3pm during term time. The existing Wednesday sessions will continue as usual.
As well as providing local home educated children with another option for activities, this extra day will also help anyone who has been impacted by the closure of another local home ed group.
The Forest School at Totnes is just outside the town in the village of Broadhempston. It has mixed woodland ideal for exploring, learning about wildlife and den building. The only buildings are compost toilets, with tarpaulins providing cover for the central firepit.
Nick Murphy, head of Forest Schools says “Our home education groups are a great opportunity for children to spend time with their peers in an environment that encourages them to be themselves, make friends and socialise.
“Each session is unique, as the activities are led by the children - so they can get involved with a whole host of different forest school activities from fire lighting, woodworking, den building and campfire cooking to team games, theatrical endeavours and longer term projects. Through all these activities, our session leaders focus on building soft skills such as teamwork, communication, self-confidence and problem solving.”
