Stories in the City bring books to life for children

Hundreds of children from primary schools across Plymouth will hear stories in unusual and interesting locations as part of Plymouth City Council’s Stories in the City event this week.

Pupils aged four to 11 from reception to year six are set to hear culinary tales at the River Cottage Canteen, swimming tales at the Life Centre and travel tales at Plym Valley Railway.

To help encourage children to read and enjoy the thrill of storytelling, over 25 story time sessions have been arranged by the Council at different and exciting venues throughout the city.

Many businesses across Plymouth have volunteered to take part, free of charge including Platters, who will be sharing cookery tips along with Rocco y Lola, Bistro One, Frankie & Benny’s, and The Souk, where children will hear Arabian Nights.

The Lord Mayor will also be hosting a group of youngsters for a tea party and a story in the parlour at the Civic Centre whilst others will scale Smeaton’s Tower for a taste of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch!

Children will also be visiting the National Marine Aquarium, JUMP, Langage Energy Centre, EE (Orange), The Life Centre- Rock Climbing, Street Factory, HMS Courageous, TR2, Waterstones, Build a Bear, the Museum, Merchants House, Crownhill Police Station, I-DAT at Plymouth University and fire stations at Greenbank and Plympton.

One lucky group will hear a story inside the Citadel.
