Students and staff from Ted Wragg Trust schools in Plymouth have been celebrating their A Level results today (15th Aug.)

Students across the TWT family of schools achieved a fantastic set of Post-16 results, with more students than ever receiving top marks of A*-A.  This has meant even more students achieved the results they wanted to go on to their next steps in life, whether that means studying at university, pursuing a vocational course, starting an apprenticeship or going into the world of work.

Throughout the Sixth Form journey at Lipson Co-operative Academy  students are supported by outstanding teachers and a pastoral team who support and guide them in every aspect of Post 16 life. From advice and guidance during enrolment, to helping students navigate the application process for university, an apprenticeship, or employment and all the bits in between, students are supported and given every opportunity to be successful in making their dreams a reality.

Lipson students are excited for their next steps and staff at the school are delighted that, for the first time in the school’s history, no student is having to secure a university place via clearing and that a huge number of students will be attending their first-choice university.  More Lipson students that ever are also moving on to attend prestigious Russell Group universities.

Lipson student Jacob Liney is going off to the University of West England to study film making and Benjamin Edwards will be reading Law at the University of Cardiff.  Fern Orchard who received a triple Distinction* in Sport will be returning to Lipson next year as a Learning Mentor whilst pursuing her dream of being a professional footballer.

The Sixth Form at Marine Academy Plymouth (MAP) in St Budeaux  was rated Good by Ofsted this year with inspectors noting that the school has a highly consistent and effective approach to teaching the curriculum, including in the Sixth Form.  Inspectors also mentioned in their report that students in the Sixth Form value the support they get in making choices about their futures.

MAP students were over the moon with a brilliant set of results, this year over 50% of disadvantaged students at MAP students have achieved University places.  Destinations for MAP students this year include Bath, Warwick, Exeter, Durham, Nottingham, Swansea and Plymouth.

Lastly at the Sixth Form at Tor Bridge High, their mission is to support and encourage their learners to achieve the highest standards in both their academic and vocational qualifications.  The courses they offer are designed to give students the greatest chance of success in today's competitive jobs market.

Working hard in the Sixth Form is rewarded, and many students are taking up places in Higher Education and professional careers including:

  • Jessica Button - Law A, Psychology B, English B. Jess will be reading Psychology at Plymouth Univeristy.

  • Euan Jones is off to Cardiff University after receiving an A in Art and Design, a B in Biology, a B in Maths and an A in Maths Studies.
