Plymouth Pirates Weekend returns

Following the huge success of 2014, which saw Plymouth Pirate Weekend receive a Visit Devon Tourism Award, the event will be returning for a family fun packed weekend in The Barbican and Sutton Harbour.  Funded by Plymouth Waterfront Partnership and supported by Brittany Ferries, Plymouth City Council and Sutton Harbour Holdings plc, this is one of the most successful and fun-filled family events of the Plymouth calendar.

The Pirates of St Piran will be storming the Tall ship The Phoenix where it will be berthed in Sutton Harbour, inviting families on board to get a taste of life as a pirate.

The streets will be taken over by the famous Jonty Depp, our very own Jack Sparrow as well as the tallest stilt walking pirates you will ever see, the YO HO HO Pirate Puppet Show and the mystical Melody Mermaid.

With a chance to dig for treasure, to make pirate outfits and enrol in the mermaid school children will be able to experience life as a real pirate. Plymouth Boat Trips will be offering a Cruise of the Lost Souls an hour long cruise from the Boathouse Café.  Competitions for the whole family will be held over the weekend for the best pirate fancy dress, a winching competition for the grownups and an opportunity to complete a Treasure Trail through The Barbican.  Treasure maps will be available in The Barbican Tourist Information Centre, at Plymouth’s Treasure Island on West Hoe and on the Visit Plymouth website in May.

Chris Arscott, Chair of the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership said: “We’re really excited to mark the fifth annual Plymouth Pirate Weekend. Funded by the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Business Improvement District, it attracts upwards of 12,000 visitors to the historic quayside of the Barbican and Sutton Harbour, famed for its greatest collection of cobbled streets in the UK outside of London. Britain's Ocean City hosts a fantastic range of vibrant family events and this is the perfect weekend break destination at any time of the year."

Activities on the Barbican and Sutton Harbour will run from 10am – 4pm.
