Ben Howard wows Pavilions crowd
Brit Award Winning, Ben Howard wowed the crowds at his homecoming show last night at Plymouth Pavilions.
Two hours of awe-inspiring music, backed by his five-piece band. A man of few words captivated the crowd by playing tracks from his two albums ‘Every Kingdom’ and his recently released ‘I Forgot Where We Were’ which was released in October last year.
He opened the show with ‘Am I In Your Light?’, one of his lesser known, darker tracks, which set the tone for the night. Despite being in an arena, it felt like a tiny venue due to the personal feel to the set.
He played many songs from his new album including ‘Small Things’, ‘In Dreams’, ‘River in Your Mouth’ and ‘Conrad’. But he also played the crowd pleasers from his last album, including ‘Keep Your Head Up’ which got the crowd singing their hearts out.
His phenomenal guitar playing really stood out during the whole performance with a mix of acoustic and electric thrown in. One thing I did notice about the feel of the concert was everyone was appreciating the music and being quiet, letting Ben do what he does best. It was quite a breath of fresh air.
‘The Fear’ and ‘End of the Affair’ just before the encore were a sign of things to come.
The encore started with ‘The Wolves’, which sent goosebumps all over my body. He then did a Bob Dylan cover of ‘Oh Sister’, which was perfectly done. Then ending with the song ‘Esmeralda’ from the EP ‘Burgh Island’.
The Platinum-selling artist really showed why he is so popular at the concert. You could almost hear a pin drop at times because he manages to have the crowd so taken by his music.
Overall, he might not be a showman but he really knows how to put on a show, just by his song writing and vocal talent.
