Food Plymouth Expo showcases local producers
The Food Plymouth Expo, the city's exciting new trade show at the Guildhall on 27th March, will feature a diverse selection of local producers and suppliers.
The event is being organised by Food Plymouth, a city wide cross sector partnership of private, public and third sector organisations, to support the aims of the Plymouth Food Charter and Sustainable Food City Plymouth Action Plan. It aims to promote a vibrant and resilient local economy for a more healthy and sustainable city.
The event intends to atract food producers, processors, wholesalers, buyers, chefs, restaurateurs and other support businesses and organisations.
Food Plymouth co-ordinator Traci Lewis said: ‘We are really pleased at the interest from local food producers and suppliers, who are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase their produce within the city, and to meet a range of buyers from Plymouth and the local area. Buyers can still register for their free trade passes on-line.’
David Barrett owner of Tamar View Fruiterers said: ‘This is a great new initiative to be taking place in Plymouth and we are right behind it. Plymouth is a real central hub for the region’s quality produce, so it makes sense to have a trade show here. We are looking forward to meeting new and existing customers and suppliers.’ Blue Fin Insurance Services, Plymouth Business Network, Owens Coffees and
Tamar Grow Local are all sponsoring the event, supporting a number of small producers and start-up food businesses to exhibit by providing subsidised stands from a Big Lottery grant. Simon Platten, TGL Coordinator said: ‘We are giving small scale producers an opportunity to showcase their products to a range of buyers that they wouldn’t normally meet; it will also ensure an interesting show for trade visitors, with a diverse selection of local businesses and products on offer.’
