The sky’s the limit for local father of three as he celebrates remission from cancer
On 30th April, a local father of three young children, will take to the sky for a charity skydive followed by a 30-mile cycle from Exeter to Torbay, in celebration of him reaching remission from a terminal colon cancer diagnosis.
Forty-two-year-old, Scott Davis, as well as friends, Shaun Ripley and Simon Hutchins, hope to raise £4000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, as a thank you for the charities support after Scott’s diagnosis in 2018.
Speaking of the challenge the Torbay resident, said, “Once you have been in the worst position you could ever be in, getting a terminal diagnosis, there feels nothing to fear anymore.”
“Falling out of the sky will be like a rebirth for me. I am a completely different person to the one I was three years. My diagnosis has completely changed my life.”
Following his terminal diagnosis, Scott prepared for the future by closing down his successful building business in order to spend the time left with his two young boys, and pregnant wife.
“Our boys were only 7 and 4 years old at the time of my diagnosis. Macmillan’s help was invaluable. They provided me with guides on how to talk to my sons about my diagnosis and vital benefits advice.”
“My wife was an absolute rock throughout. I was just finishing my palliative chemo session while she was in labour. I joined her in the delivery room, and she was comforting me while I was sick and vice versa. Looking back, it was horrific, but we made it through, it has made me grateful for every day.”
Reflecting on the past three years and where he is today, Scott added, “My experience prompted me to want to help others. There is hope after cancer. I am proof of that fact.”
Today, Scott runs a successful wellbeing business, Life Oils, with close friend, Matt, and uses this to continue to donate and contribute to Torbay Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support.
“I am in a very fortunate position. I have been given the gift of time and I treasure it. My experience made me revalue what is important. I appreciate the importance of keeping physically and mentally well. I take gratitude in the day to day. It is a privilege to put my children to bed, watch the sunrise and taking them to school in the morning.”
Alongside his skydive, Scott has hopes of raising further funds for the cancer charity with an upcoming book and others charity events.
There has been some interest in my journey. I hope by sharing it, It can not only help me close a chapter of my life. But also helps raise awareness, encourages and inspires others that there is always hope.
Scott is also planning on donating a percentage of the profits from its sale to Macmillan Cancer Support.”
