Baptist Church raises £1,000 for ICU

A group of volunteers from Salisbury Road Baptist Church have kindly donated £1,000 to Torrington Intensive Care Unit.

In 2014, Elaine Giles underwent heart surgery and had to stay in Derriford Hospital for nine days. During this time, she stayed on Torrington Intensive Care Unit and has since made a full recovery.

Elaine said: “This gift is just a small token of my appreciation for the excellent care that I received whilst at Derriford Hospital.

“Myself and other volunteers at the church, including Christine Luckham, Joan Goodman, Doreen Nation and Michael Giles, raised the money by holding a coffee and cake morning at our church’s café,

‘Wayside Café’. We were thrilled by the amount of money that we raised on the day and we will continue to help support this unit for as long as we can.”

The cheque was presented to Natalie Howes, acting Matron for Cardiothoracic and Sylvia Villaquiran, Ward Manager for Torrington Intensive Care Unit.

Natalie said: “We would like to extend our thanks from the whole team to Elaine and the other volunteers at Salisbury Road Baptist Church. This amazing donation will be put to marvellous use to help our patients. We really are extremely grateful.”
