Building evacuated after Barbican restaurant fire
A fire in a restaurant in the Barbican area of the city in the early hours of this morning led to the evacuation of a four storey building.
Two fire appliances from Greenbank station, one from Plymstock and the aerial ladder platform from Crownhill attended after calls were received reporting the incident at Rockys Steakhouse and Grill on Southside Street.
The domestic flats above the restaurant were being evacuated as fire crews arrived.
Fire crews confirmed a fire in the rear food preparation area of the ground floor restaurant of the four storey building. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue report that the fire was extinguished by crews which included two wearing breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet. The property was ventilated using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
The service confirm that the fire damage was confined to the rear of the premises.
Following an investigation by a Fire Investigation Officer and the police, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
No one is reported to have been injured in the incident.
