The Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge’s Summer Open Day proved to be a great ‘bray’ out

The Mayor of Ivybridge, Councillor Anthony Khong officially opened The Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge’s Open Day on Saturday 2 June. After cutting the ribbon at the main outdoor arena, Cllr. Khong welcomed families to the event and invited them to explore the world of donkeys in the new look interaction zones.

The Open Day is the centre’s main fund-raising event of the year and each zone offered visitors a different experience with the chance to find out more about the work of the charity. There was the opportunity to make some enrichment items for the donkeys which proved very popular and resulted in dozens of herby logs, vegetable kebabs and enrichment boxes. An added delight for families was to watch their efforts being enjoyed by the donkeys in the main arena.

Lucky, The Donkey Sanctuary mascot made sure he met everyone and posed for photographs while the Dog Show gave visitors the chance to show off their pet pooch. People had the chance to explore the site and take part in a donkey themed trail.

Bob Venn, senior centre manager at The Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge says: “We were delighted with the positive response from our new look Open Day. Our interaction zones across the site provided a fantastic opportunity for new visitors and existing supporters to really understand the variety of work we do here at The Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge.”

Bob concluded: “It was a pleasure to watch so many families engage with our donkeys and return home with a wealth of donkey knowledge that they had leant throughout the day”

All proceeds from the event will help fund the work of The Donkey Sanctuary in the community and worldwide.
