Don't lose your voice! Register to vote
Plymouth City Council is encouraging any local residents not yet registered to vote, to go online now to register.
If you are not yet registered to vote, you won’t have the chance to have a say on who represents you. It can also impact on any applications you make for credit. This is because credit reference agencies use the electoral register to confirm where someone lives when they apply for credit in order to counteract fraud.
Registering to vote is quick, easy and secure. Go to www.gove.uk/register-to-vote. You will need your National Insurance number, which can be found on your National Insurance card, or in official paperwork such as payslips, or letters about benefits or tax credits.
If you don’t have access to the internet or can’t use it, Plymouth City Council electoral registration staff will be able to supply you with a hard copy registration form and help answer any questions you have. You can contact them on the helplines 01752 304866 or 01752 304936.
You can also receive information and help to register in 1st Stop, 71 New George Street and also any of the libraries across Plymouth.
Residents in Plymouth will also be receiving a letter with details of who’s currently on the electoral register for their property. Anyone living at the property, but whose name is not on the letter can use the new online facility to register to vote.
Councillor Peter Smith, Cabinet Member, said; "National Voter Registration Day exists because it’s important that anyone who’s eligible to be on the register, but has not yet registered, does so. Young people, students and people who move frequently are much less likely to be registered to vote. We are urging them to use the day as an opportunity to get onto the electoral register."
