Fire service report 'deliberate' fire in community centre

A fire at the Whitleigh Community Centre in Plymouth has been described as 'deliberate' by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.

Two fire crews - one appliance from Camels Head and one from Crownhill - attended to the small fire within the community centre in Whitleigh Green.

The fire was discovered by the entrance door and lobby area of the building. Two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet were required to extinguish the fire. A short extension ladder, a positive pressure ventilation fan and small tools were also used.

The entrance door was severely damaged by the fire, the rest of the building received light smoke damage.
