Plymouth City Council is teaming up with Job Centre Plus and local employment agencies to help people plan their journeys to new and potential workplaces.

The Council has produced a handy postcard as part of its Plymotion at Your Workplace programme, which aims to make it easier for workers to get from A to B by bus, by bike and on foot.

The postcards are designed to help job seekers and people who have just found new jobs by signposting them to travel planning advice, support and incentives. They are being made available through Job Centre Plus and a number of employment agencies across the city.

Plymotion at Your Workplace is one strand of Plymotion, a three-year project to increase sustainable travel and improve access to employment, education and healthcare across the city.

As well as providing drop-in sessions where employees can get one-to-one help with planning their travel, it also helps employers to meet their sustainable travel targets by encouraging people to finding greener ways of commuting to work.

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “When you’re going out to interviews or starting a new job, it often means travelling to parts of the city you’re less familiar with. These new postcards are a really simple way of helping people to plan their journeys and find out more about cheaper, greener ways of getting to and from work – from free cycle training to car sharing initiatives. We’re really pleased to be joining forces with our partners to get this information out to job seekers, agency workers and new employees.”

Jackie Williams, Partnership Manager for Jobcentre Plus in Plymouth said: “Travel and transport issues can often be a barrier to finding and getting a job. This initiative will give people practical support to get themselves into work as well as helping the environment. It’s a great idea!”

Other partners helping to promote the new Plymotion postcards include Working Links, Acorn People, Hays, Office Angels, Pertemps, Prospects and Tomorrow’s People.
