Lots of watches!
A consignment of collectable watches are amongst items being sold at Chilcotts ‘Jewellery, Watches, Silver and Coins’ sale on Saturday, June 11.
There are 56 separate lots, spanning the Victorian era right up to the 1970s including wristwatches, pocket watches and fob watches.
“Trends with watches can be quite unpredictable,” explained Liz Chilcott. “At the moment, military watches with black faces are on trend while ladies’ cocktail watches aren’t popular and are mainly being sold for their gold content.”
One example of a military watch in the sale is a Hamilton Geneve British Military RAF issue stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch from the early 1970s which has a black dial with military arrow, estimated at £360 to £420.
“Despite the move to hi tech lifestyle watches, traditional mechanical wristwatches are still a desirable accessory,” says Liz.
“Brands on offer include Omega, Longines and Girard-Perregaux, Rolex, Hunter and Kobold, good mid-range watches which are very wearable, with vintage examples from the 1950s-70s being especially fashionable!”
Watch estimates range from £50 to £2000 plus 21% buyers premium.
Also featuring in the auction are over 150 lots of jewellery: necklaces, brooches, earrings, including 56 lots of rings; those wanting to invest in gold have a good range of coins such as sovereigns, and there are 186 lots of silverware.
This is the first time Chilcotts has run an auction comprising solely this particular range of items, all being offered for sale by private individuals and therefore fresh to market.
Viewing at the Dolphin Salerooms in Honiton High Street is from June 8 to June 11 and the sale starts at 10am.
