Mystery, magic, and murder await
The 2025 International Agatha Christie Festival promises nine unforgettable days (13–21 September) of literary celebration across the stunning English Riviera. Set in Christie’s birthplace, this year’s programme is packed with theatrical performances, immersive experiences, and star-studded panels—truly an immersive journey into the world of the Queen of Crime.
The festivities begin with the Fringe Festival, featuring walking tours, afternoon teas, and quirky whodunnits like the Murder Mystery at Paignton Zoo. You can watch a classic mystery at Kents Cavern’s Underground Cinema, or enjoy tea at All Saints’ Church, where Christie was baptised.
At Paignton Library, visitors can solve a murder after dark in The Bodies in the Library, while It’s a Mystery!—a one-man show by Tim Benzie—blends humour and homage to the genre.
From 18 September, the focus turns to the Literary Festival. Big names like Lucy Foley, Sophie Hannah, and screenwriter Chris Chibnall take the stage. Events include panel discussions, podcast recordings, and even a glamorous Victory Ball with a 17-piece big band.
The festival also honours Christie’s supernatural side in Tony Medawar’s talk Agatha Christie and the Occult, and closes with a dramatic interactive murder mystery evening featuring fish and chips, prosecco, and plenty of plot twists.
Supporting future storytellers, the festival’s young writers’ competition and Christie for Kids Day encourage mystery writing in children aged 8–18. With workshops, talks, and treasure hunts, there’s something for all ages.
The 2025 programme reflects Christie’s timeless appeal while celebrating Torbay’s creative spirit. To explore accommodation or view the full schedule, visit the official festival website.
