New home for Council staff at Millbay
Council staff will be moved into a key office block overlooking Millbay, providing a boost to the area’s regeneration.
Plymouth City Council has signed an agreement with the landlord of Ballard House where the authority already has a lease. The deal will mean the Council will occupy four floors of the seven storey block.
Cabinet Member for Finance, Councillor Mark Lowry said: “Our move to Millbay will help this area’s regeneration and, in turn, help the city make the most of its waterfront. With our staff there, we will be able to support the businesses that are beginning to spring up around this part of the city.”
The moves will be phased over a number of months as there are over 1,000 people working in the Civic Centre together with associated IT and furniture.
The Council is progressing with its plan to leave the Civic Centre to enable the future development of the building and provide flexible, value for money accommodation.
The major office relocation is providing the Council with an opportunity to carry out a stocktake of its services and to better adapt to the changing role of local authorities.
