Plymouth’s Mayflower Marina has been named as the British Coastal Marina of the Year at the recent London Boat Show. These were the first marina awards for leading trade association for marinas, The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA).

Mayflower Marina is an independent marina, owned and operated by Sailport PLC. It has berthing for around 400 boats, boatyard services and an extensive range of onshore facilities including the popular Jolly Jacks bar and restaurant. In 2012 Mayflower Marina was awarded TYHA’s coveted 5 Gold Anchor award for maintaining high standards of facility and excellent customer service.

The award was made by CEO of the Royal Yachting Association, Sarah Treseder and collected by a proud marina manager, Charles Bush.

Charles Bush, MD of Mayflower Marina said “To have won this award because our customers have voted for us makes it a particularly special achievement. Over the years we have invested heavily in the marina’s facilities and whilst facility is important, in our business it is people and relationships that matter most. The friendly atmosphere at Mayflower Marina is a positive reflection on all of the people involved on our site but none more so than our staff. I am delighted to accept this award on their behalf. I should like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their on-going support and for helping us to achieve this tremendous accolade.”

Libby Gordon from TYHA said “These awards are an excellent way to acknowledge the hard work that marina staff do not only in the UK, but all over the world. We are grateful to our sponsors GJW Insurance for supporting this year’s awards and hope to build on the awards in future years.”
