Plymouth gets its skates on over Christmas

The Plymouth Pavilions Ice Rink has seen an unprecedented number of skaters enjoying the most wonderful time of the year on the ice. This Christmas Period almost 11,000 eager skaters young and old got their skates on and took a turn around the rink.

The only place in Plymouth where you could find real snow this Christmas was at one of the two special ice discos, held on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve and selling out well in advance.

Among the busiest sessions was the ever popular Chilly Tots, where children and their grown ups can have fun on the ice with toys and skating aids, every session selling out over the Christmas break.

More people than ever were lucky enough to find an Ice Rink gift voucher under their tree this year which is great news because ice skating is not just for Christmas! Did you know that just 30 minutes of ice skating can easily burn off over 250 calories, that’s the same as walking nearly 3 miles and let’s face it, it’s a lot more enjoyable than the gym!

It’s not just skating either, the UK has seen the popularity of Ice Hockey going from strength to strength and the sport has had a home at the Pavilions for several years, with dedicated Adult and Child sessions it makes a great challenge for the New Year. So, you’re spoilt for choice with free trial lessons for skaters of all ages and abilities, weekly ice discos and sessions for everyone, it’s a great time to take up a new hobby, or reignite an old favourate.
