Police in Plymouth are working with Plymouth City Council to combat an increase in antisocial behaviour complaints in parts of the city.

Local police have seen a notable rise in noise and antisocial behaviour complaints in the Greenbank area recently.

To help combat this, the Force is working with the environmental health department at Plymouth City Council to identify problem areas and properties, and to appropriately deal with criminal offences and antisocial behaviour.

This new scheme will also help Police to gather information and details of those involved in noise and antisocial behaviour.

Inspector Darren Green said: “Over the next month we are working in partnership with Plymouth City Council’s environmental health department to identify and deal with those creating noise nuisance and antisocial behaviour in the small hours.

“We have put extra resources on the streets in the area at key times to help deal with those involved in noise and anti-social behaviour, as well as gather information.

“The majority of the public are well behaved but we will be working in the Greenbank, Mutley and effected areas nearby used by revellers on their way home to tackle the rising issue of antisocial behaviour.

“Anyone can be a victim of antisocial behaviour or suffer from the effects of it. Antisocial behaviour is described as anything that interferes with the peaceful enjoyment of the home and surrounding area.

“We are acting on the information we have gathered from our communities with the aim of making these areas safer. We also hope to continue to gather further information to help us create a long-term approach to tackling antisocial behaviour across the region, and to help us respond directly to the needs of our communities.”

Councillor Brian Vincent, Cabinet Member for the Environment at Plymouth City Council, said: “Antisocial behaviour and noise pollution are serious issues and we are committed to tackling these problems in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Police.

“As part of our commitment to a safer Plymouth where people feel safe and comfortable in their own homes, we strongly urge people to report any incidences of noise or anti-social behaviour and we are here to support you.”

If you are affected by noise in the street or other antisocial behaviour, please contact the police on 101, or 999 in the case of an emergency.

Noise nuisance complaints can be made to the council by emailing public.protection@plymouth.gov.uk or telephoning 01752 304147 during office hours. Further information can be found at www.plymouth.gov.uk
