Plymouth's first-ever 'History Festival' got underway today, its aim to highlight and celebrate Plymouth's unique history and heritage through a series of different events for people of all ages and interests.

The programme of exhibitions and events has begun and you can find out what's happening by visiting the History Festival 2013 website. There are nearly 100 different events across the city which are being hosted by more than 30 different venues.

The programme includes exhibitions, displays, talks, guided walks, tours, family-friendly workshops, film, music and special events such as Local Studies Day 2013, Lord Mayor's Day 2013 and Museums at Night 2013.

Plymouth Morris men got things off to an energetic but early start on The Hoe at dawn and will be dancing again at The Minerva in Looe Street and The Dolphin Hotel on the Barbican this evening.

An exhibition entitled The Making of a Modern City runs until the end of June at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery and there are a number of other exhibitions and displays celebrating local history and culture throughout the festival.

If you have any general enquiries about the Festival, you can get in touch by sending an email to museumevents@plymouth.gov.uk.

You can also sign up to the Festival Facebook page and Twitter Festival account to stay in the loop.
