Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity is celebrating the success of Team GB at the Rio Olympics by putting on their own version of the world’s greatest sporting event – the Olympups, to keep their homeless hounds entertained at their 20 Rehoming Centres across the UK whilst they await loving homes of their own.

The charity hopes to pass on the baton of ownership to loving new families but in the meantime the Olympups are keeping our playful pooches occupied and in tip top condition before they cross the finish line into new homes. The dogs are putting their athletic prowess to good use as they enjoy a whole range of sports including the hurdles, the sprint, the high beam, tennis, discus, synchronized diving, long jump and the doggy paddle.

Dogs Trust Harefield Manager Richard Moore explains: “We definitely have a touch of Olympic fever here and a doggy Olympics seemed like the perfect fun way to channel the dogs’ energy and keep them mentally and physically stimulated whilst interacting with their doggy friends. The dogs all thoroughly enjoyed it and some of them actually turned out to be pretty talented.”

Richard adds “Like most athletes our dogs are extremely energetic and will need time to continue their  training in a new home. They will make  wonderful additions to sport-mad families who can spend time playing lots of games with them. If you need a personal trainer to get you ready for the next Olympics in Tokyo or just a new best friend to chase  around the garden we hope you will consider one of our Olympup stars. They are all super dogs and we hope they will find loving homes in time to take a front row seat on a cozy sofa to cheer on team GB for the rest of the games.”

If you would like to offer a loving home to any of the wonderful dogs cared for at Dogs Trust please call the rehoming centre on 0300 303 0292 or visit www.dogstrust.org.uk.
