Business event to get the nuts and bolts of business right
Firms will be able to get the low-down on the laws that affect how they run their business as well as tips and taster sessions to help their companies grow.
Plymouth City Council is about to hold its third 'Nut sand Bolts' event on Thursday 24 April which aims to provide a wealth of support and guidance all in one place.
The event is organised by the Council's Public Protection team, which covers areas ranging from Trading Standards and the 'Buy with Confidence' campaign, pest control, to the national Food Hygiene Ratings scheme. Other parts of the Council will also be represented at the event to offer advice on issues such as business rates, procurement and planning.
Hot topics such as finance, social media, staff training, sales and marketing will be covered in the workshops along with other fundamentals to business success.
Council Leader Tudor Evans said: "If we are passionate about expanding our economy, we have to do as much as we can to support businesses of all sizes. We want to help de-mystify some of the rules and regulations surrounding some businesses.
"While we have to enforce the law in some areas, we would far prefer to give good solid advice to prevent businesses from making mistakes. Having experienced staff from the Council as well as other organisations in the same room offering face-to-face talks is far easier for businesses to get what they need."
Those who attended previous events were complimentary about the variety of organisations present; the opportunity to network as well as how easy it was to get answers to questions.
Other organisations taking part include the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service as well as Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Outset Plymouth, Gill Akasker, Francis Clarke, City College, Design Inspiration, Plymouth Chamber, GAIN Plymouth University, Working Links and the National Apprenticeship Service.
Particular sessions include:
- Training and your business: Matt Maclean from Plymouth City College, will guide businesses on the ways the college works with employers and staff.
- So...about these 5s: Food Safety Workshop for new or existing food business who wants to get the best Food Hygiene Rating Scheme score they can.
- Making Social Media work for you: Ash Mashhadi, media and marketing expert will talk about how to market your business.
- Show me the money: Chris Burt, finance expert from South West Investment Group will explain all the current funding and finance opportunities available to Plymouth's small businesses.
