Plymouth police re-launch Justice Gym
Plymouth Police have joined forces with Plymouth City Council and local partners to re-launch Justice Gym.
Following an increase in the reports of anti-social behaviour, affecting residents and businesses in St. Budeaux, Barne Barton, Ham and North Prospect, Police, along with several other partner organisations have reinvigorated the Justice Gym project at Ford Youth & Community Gym, in Wolsely Business Park.
The project will be used as a diversionary tactic, to give young people in the area a chance to get involved in a range of physical activities, including weight training, cardio training, circuit training and boxing, instead of wandering the streets and potentially contributing to some of the antisocial behaviour issues that have already arisen.
The sessions, which run Mondays 5-6pm and Fridays 4:30-6:30pm, are now fully funded thanks to Plymouth City Council, and are run by qualified fitness coaches. There will also be extra sessions run on Wednesdays during school holiday, from 1-3pm.
Justice Gym is open to anyone in Plymouth, aged thirteen to twenty, with a mini bus service also available from several pick up points around the city. There are also incentive scheme in place to reward and recognise the achievements and commitment of young people that attend.
PCSO Dave Ryland said: "Following the issues regarding ASB in the West of the city, it’s great that we’ve been able to reinvigorate Justice Gym, which previously worked really well in engaging young people in the area, and keeping them off the streets.
"Thank you to all our partners who have made this relaunch possible. It’s a fantastic investment in the local community and I’m confident that it will have a positive impact for young people, and also our businesses and residents affected by the ongoing ASB problems."
