Twitter account demands Judi back
A twitter account has been set up calling on BBC bosses to save popular presenter Judi Spiers’ show from the axe.
The Radio Devon stalwart told her audience this morning that this week would be her last.
She said: "This is my last week. But boy we've had some good times. We've had some dodgy times as well but on the whole we've had some good ones. We've had some dark times in recent days but hopefully they'll be blown away.”
It is not clear why the show is being dropped but the Daily understands it was not Judi’s choice to leave and that she is deeply saddened.
Within hours of the announcement, a twitter account @BringBackJudi had been set up calling for the broadcaster’s reinstatement.
It is not know who is behind the account but they have made it clear they are particularly angry that after Judi leaves, unless her replacement is female, there will be no women presenting prime time shows on Radio Devon.
This is the latest controversial decision believed to have been taken by managing editor Mark Grinnell.
In January, he ousted equally popular breakfast host Matt Woodley to make way for former BBC Radio 1 DJ Simon Bates.
An insider told the Daily: “Radio Devon has been Matt's life and he has suddenly found himself on the sidelines.”
There are rumours circulating around the BBC that Matt could be in line to take over Judi’s show.
A BBC spokeswoamn said: “It’s normal for radio stations to change their schedules from time to time; however Judi remains a popular presenter so we offered her some other radio and TV opportunities. We hope that she will continue to entertain audiences in the region."
