Children at Stowford School celebrate World Book Day with donation from Bloor Homes
Nursery children attending Stowford School in Ivybridge have celebrated World Book Day with a donation from Bloor Homes.
The donation will pay for new books to support literacy for the youngest children at the school and help with their learning.
Hayley Williams, Sales Adviser at Bloor Homes’ Filham Chase development close to the school delivered the books and was greeted by children - and staff - dressed in character.
World Book Day is officially celebrated on March 2nd every year, with many pre-school settings and primary schools choosing to mark it at some point during the first week of March. According to the World Book Day web site*, research found that:
- 96.9% of children have heard of World Book Day and children who participate in World Book Day activities are more engaged in reading and books than those who don’t.
- 70% of early years settings and 77% primary schools said World Book Day is effective in fostering a reading for pleasure culture.
- 59% of primary school children find reading more fun as a result of World Book Day.
Sara Parker, Sales Director at Bloor Homes, said: “We wanted to ensure the youngest members of the school had a fresh intake of books to support their learning from the earliest age. We were delighted to be invited to visit the pre-school children – we were certainly greeted by some really colourful characters! We really hope the children enjoy their new books.”

It is vital for children’s love of reading and their future as successful readers for them to be in an environment where there are high quality books from an early age. This donation will enable us to expand our range of books for our youngest readers Due to the pandemic we are finding that some children are starting their nursery education without having had the rich experiences necessary for developing their speaking, listening and vocabulary.
