Local jewellers supports junior fencing star
Michael Spiers Jewellers is often associated with an array of sports, from squash to diving and even cricket - it therefore comes as no surprise that the independent family jewellers, with stores in Plymouth, Truro, Exeter and Taunton, were keen to support a rising fencing star in his quest for gold.
Last year, Joshua Hellings, a pupil at Plymouth College and a member of the Plymouth Fencing Club, was ranked third in the country for the under thirteen age group.
Joshua recently travelled to Poland as part of the England under 15 Epee team to take part in the ‘Challenge Wratislava’ Championships in Wroclaw.
Competing against a field of 180 fencers from 28 Countries, Joshua finished in a credible 44th position, staving off strong international competition – this was no mean feat given his age.
Joshua, pictured here with Keith White and Adam Spiers of Michael Spiers Jewellers, is setting his sights firmly on representing his country in the future.
Adam Spiers said: "We are delighted to support such a keen and talented sportsman - it is a pleasure to know Josh and we look forward to supporting him further as he progresses through the cadet and junior fencing ranks.”
