Duchess of Cambridge admitted to hospital in early stages of Labour

Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Duchess of Cambridge has been taken to hospital in the early stages of Labour.

Accompanied by the Duke of Cambridge, the Duchess was taken by car to St Mary's in Paddington, West London at around 6.00am. They drove to the back entrance, avoiding the numerous press who have been camped outside the hospital in anticipation of the Royal labour.

There are unlikely to be further announcements until the birth.

The sex of the baby is not known but the child will be third in line to the throne regardless of gender.
