'Sunday Assembly' offers "sense of community for non-believers"
In a preview to the 40 Dates and 40 Nights Roadshow, comedian Sanderson Jones will be visiting Plymouth to talk about the Sunday Assembly, a movement growing in popularity.
Plymouth Humanists say that the event, which may be controversial to many, launches an opportunity for the non-believers of Plymouth to build their own sense of community in Plymouth.
"Just under 33% of the people of Plymouth stated they were of no belief in the last census. The values and needs of this section of the community are often side-lined but the larger religiously inclined majority.
"The interest in secular groups in Plymouth, such as Plymouth Humanists and the embryonic Sunday Assembly Plymouth may well be a reaction to this. Many will criticize groups like these but they address the needs and interests of people in Plymouth that cannot be met elsewhere.
"We can expect to see groups and event such as the Sunday Assembly popping up all over the country and the world, and Plymouth could be on the leading edge of this movement."
