Michaelmas fayre – an apple extravaganza

On Sunday 29 September, visitors to Saltram, near Plympton, can enjoy the change of seasons by celebrating Michaelmas; the coming of autumn and the shortening of days.

Join staff and volunteers in their harvest celebrations in the Stable Courtyard – pressing the masses of apples picked from the orchards and sampling freshly made apple juice and homemade cider.

Then, either take a seat on a hay bail or wander amongst local traditional craft stalls; chat to Saltram’s allotment holders or enjoy a hog roast. Entertainment will be provided by the Dartington Morris Men and Dixie Grass a local skiffle band.

Fiona Macmillan, Visitor Experience Manager commented: "Michaelmas has traditionally been a small event at Saltram, but this year we decided to invite the wider community to come and share our harvest festival. We are really looking forward to it, and are especially excited about sampling this year’s apple juice and last year’s cider."

The event will be held from 12 noon until 4pm and is free to all. However there may be a small charge for some children’s activities as well as food and drink.
