A386 re-opens following serious collision on busy route to Tavistock Goose Fair
A stretch of the A386 has re-opened following a two-vehicle collision at Blackdown on Wednesday (9 October) which caused heavy delays towards the Tavistock Goose Fair.
Police were called to the scene of the collision on ‘Blackdown’ between Mary Tavy and Lydford, and closed the road in both directions.
The road closure caused severe traffic disruption, according to Devon and Cornwall Police, in area whre the roads were already likely to be congested due to the fair.
The collision involved a BMW and a VW Golf. Air and land ambulances attended and the female occupants of each car were taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
One 39-year-old woman from Tavistock (the driver of the Golf) sustained serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening; the other, a 32-year-old woman from Okehampton (the driver of the BMW 318) suffered minor injuries.
Police closed the road between Mary Tavy and Lydford and operated a full diversion between Sourton (junction with A30) and Parkwood Road in Tavistock.
The road was re-opened at approximately 1.30pm.
