Public’s chance to see Ivybridge Community College’s nationally acclaimed performers
Tickets have gone on sale for Fantasy, Ivybridge Community College’s four-day performing arts extravaganza, which will feature a mix of high-energy singing, dancing and gymnastics performances.
The two-hour show, which runs from Wednesday 11 December to Saturday 14 December, will showcase more than 500 students performing 20 spectacular acts. These include stars from the college’s popular Les Misérables production, world champion gymnasts, and the 76-strong cast of the nationally-acclaimed ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ piece.
“This is the eighth year that we have run the show,” said Helen Reddy, Head of Performing Arts at Ivybridge Community College and the show’s creative director, “and each year it gets bigger and better. It is one of the highlights of the college year and a true spectacle for members of the audience.”
Every year the show has a different focus, and this year’s theme – Fantasy – opens up the show to a universe of possibilities, with a variety of dazzling acts.
“Our storyline focusses on the Evil Poison Ivy, our central character, who casts darkness and despair throughout Ivybridge and beyond,” added Helen. “The story unfolds throughout the show as our hero students trail her throughout a number of fantasy lands, attempting to halt the despair she is causing and bring hope back to their school and to the rest of the world.”
Each act contains a different fantasy theme - from Space, Elves and Magic to Dragons, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and The Wizard of Oz.
“This is a huge, spectacular show with something for everyone,” added Helen, “including moments of wonder that will appeal to small children, complex choreography that will interest more discerning performing arts fans, and rich costumes that will appeal to everyone.”
In addition to Ivybridge Community College students, the show will include special guest appearances from various organisations including Heinrich-von-Kleist school in Germany, Honiton Gymnastics Club, and an adagio statue act from Majorca.
Tickets for the show cost £7.50 for adults and £5 for children and concessions. They are available either by downloading and sending in a ticket form from the college website, visiting the college reception, or calling 01752 691000 to reserve tickets.
Despite almost 3,000 spaces available, tickets sell out very quickly, so interested parties are advised to book immediately to avoid disappointment.
