Hundreds of sailors and Royal Marines will march through Plymouth on Friday 20 September for a ceremonial event celebrating the close relationship between the city and the Royal Navy.
Around 550 serving personnel and veterans will take part in the parade, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the Naval Service in Plymouth being granted the Freedom of the City.
The former Leader of Plymouth City Council, Councillor Vivian Pengelly will be elected as Lord Mayor in a ceremony at the Guildhall today (Friday 17 May).
Cllr Pengelly was until recently the leader of the Conservative group in opposition to the Labour controlled Council. She led the Council under the previous Conservative administration between 2007 and 2012.
From 10am on Saturday 20th April - St George's Day - a large family focused free party is planned which includes a full entertainment programme throughout the day, ranging from live music to fun competitions plus loads more.
The Plymouth Morris Men will be performing in the Piazza alongside the City of Plymouth Pipe Band. A number of local bands and singers will be on stage under the big screen to keep the crowds entertained, including star of Britain's Got Talent, Michael Collings.
