Calstock Jazz & Blues Festival

After the resounding success of the 2012 Festival we are delighted to bring you news of the 2013 Festival, which will be taking place from Friday 25 – Sunday 27 October.

All three headliners have now been announced – the Jacqui Dankworth Trio will be playing in the Old Chapel on Saturday 26 October, and on Sunday 27 October, also in the Old Chapel, Jean Toussaint and two of the late Abram Wilson’s critically acclaimed young rhythm section, plus Jean Toussaint’s regular bass player, present ‘Saxophone Giants: A Tribute to Jazz’s Greatest Saxophonists’.

Newly acquired Scott of the Antarctic object now on display at City Museum and Art Gallery

An important object linked to famous polar explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott, otherwise known as ‘Scott of the Antarctic’, is now on display at the City Museum and Art Gallery.

Record numbers of child adoptions in England

New figures show that almost 4,000 children in care were adopted in 2012 - an increase of 15% and the highest ever since records began.

The annual 'looked-after children' statistics show that 3,980 children were adopted across England between April 2012 and March 2013, up from 3,470 the previous year. This is higher than in any year since 1992, when comparable records began.

Police arrest and charge man wanted for breaching bail conditions

A man who was wanted by police after breaching his bail conditions, has been arrested.

David Dams, 47, was arrested at 9.55pm on Wednesday 25 September after he attended Charles Cross police station in Plymouth.
