More than 3,000 children in Plymouth have signed up for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge so far – and there’s still time to join in.
Organised by The Reading Agency in partnership with local libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge encourages four to 11-year-olds to read six or more library books or eBooks during the school summer holiday.
More children than ever took part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge set by Devon County Council‘s libraries to help avoid a common dip in reading ability over summer holidays.
The Council has run the Summer Reading Challenge for years, but this year they went further, encouraging physical activity among young people as well as improving reading ability.
The Merchant’s House, one of Plymouth’s most historic properties, has opened its doors for the 2013 season.
Located at 33 St Andrew Street, tucked behind the Magistrates Court, the house is Plymouth’s finest surviving example of a 16th to 17th century residence.
