Pay your council tax by direct debit and receive your energy rebate payment quickly
East Devon District Council (EDDC) are urging all bill-payers to set up a direct debit to pay their council tax. By paying by direct debit will enable the council to pay the £150 energy rebate payment as quickly as possible.
The Government recently announced funding for local authorities to support people with the rising costs of energy. This includes those who already receive assistance in paying some or all of their council bill through local council tax support.
All eligible households in England that live in properties banded between bands A to D (or if you live in a band E property but receive a disablement reduction) should get the £150 one-off payment from the council from April this year.
Around 80% of households in East Devon already pay their council tax by direct debit and will receive the payment into their bank account without needing to take any action. For new direct debits the Government requires us to have successfully collected a first payment of council tax by direct debit before issuing the energy rebate payment.
However, that leaves around 11,000 households who do not currently pay their council tax through this arrangement and getting the rebate money to them will take longer as they will need to go through a claims process.

Councillor Jack Rowland, East Devon District Council Portfolio Holder for Finance said: “We are urging residents who do not pay their council tax via Direct Debit currently to set one up so this vital energy rebate can be made to them as quickly as possible.”
“The council is working as quickly as it can to get these schemes up and running and will keep its website and the East Devon App up to date with all the latest information. Residents can also subscribe to a special newsletter where updates will be given when they are available.”
