The Brownston Gallery are proud to present an exhibition of work by Joanna Haskins, winner of the Brownston Gallery Fresh Talent Award in 2022.
Jo Haskins has always been inspired by the natural environment and in partcular landscapes. After spending time in Svarlbard in the high Arctic she has created a wonderful collection of paintings and screen prints which are on show at the gallery until the end of the month.
"I am inspired by the experience of a space in a landscape. I aim to portray my memories of the discovery of a place in the natural environment,...
The annual Spring Exhibition with selected members of the South West Academy has firmly become one of the highlights of our year. Each Academician brings something new and fresh to the collection and together they present a fantastic showcase of the high calibre of painting talent which we have here in the South West.
Inspired by the beautiful scenery, stunning locations on land and sea, and of course our great way of life, this annual exhibition is a great introduction to the wide range of differing styles of painting from our artists, from the gentle...
In this small intimate exhibition Devon artist, Simon Fleeman, explores the infinite possibilities of digital art to present a very different perception of the visual interpretation of people’s views and attitudes towards sex, gender, nudity and indifference. Beautifully drawn, these artworks will challenge your own perceptions.
His raw, stripped-back Pop Art form, using only a limited amount of tools and colours to create simple, minimalistic abstract shapes and spaces, almost cartoonish or toylike in execution, helps make his subject matter visible and acceptable.
Although Anthony Amos is recognised for his wonderful seascapes and maritime paintings, which were inspired by over twenty years working at sea, he also had a strong affinity to the English countryside defined by his work as a farm labourer when he was not at sea.
His landscape paintings usually feature horses, trees and farm animals, often presenting a gentler view compared to the excitement and danger of life at sea. Still recognisable though is the way he captures the strength of the horses as they pull a plough or bring in a lifeboat, or the humour and endearing nature of cows...
A collaborative art exhibition, between en plein air artist Dawn Jordan and the Seaglass Gallery, in Lympstone, will be taking place from 4-14 November.
Devon and Cornwall’s stunning coastlines, from the hidden gems of East Devon to the rugged cliffs of West Cornwall, have been captured timelessly in oils.
The exhibition will give viewers the chance to walk in Dawn Jordan’s footsteps and see through her artist eyes as she sets off on her quest to chase the light before it leaves the land and sea. Iconic locations including the red cliffs of Orcombe Point, mysterious...
The discovery of the work of Jean Jones (1927 – 2012) in a small cottage on Dartmoor has become something of a phenomenon.
Over the past three years we have been showing work by this extraordinary artist and helping to reclaim her rightful place in the History of Art. So far the gallery has focused primarily on her paintings of the expansive Dartmoor landscape she loved. This new exhibition introduces a collection of previously unseen paintings which were made beyond Dartmoor – in Oxford and London.
Jean Jones lived in Oxford for most of her adult life...
My work is all about the light. I love experimenting with dark and shade and seeing where each painting takes me. I feel this new collection has a light - almost summery - feel to it which I have really enjoyed creating.
Julie Ellis is an artistic powerhouse. Her work ethic and discipline must make her one of the hardest working artists in the country. Not only has she completed her Masters Degree at the University of Plymouth but she has also continued to create and produce a fantastic body of work to present to the public.
Mankind's relationship with the natural world is brought into focus with a beautiful and subtle depiction of the local Devon landscape, ultimately sounding a celebration of life.
Joe Webster's 2022 bluebell paintings are both a continuation of his two decades of experience and observation in nature while also marking an evolution in his unique landscape-graffiti style.
This beautiful collection uses dramatic tonal and colour harmonies presenting shades of black alongside bold, vibrant shades of indigo and lime green. Joe's use of graffiti...
